Rukiga: Police in Rukiga District are holding a suspect identified as Geoffrey Wilson Kareba for allegedly murdering his 70-year-old sister, Alice Joventa Mutwigi, in a suspected domestic dispute linked to accusations of witchcraft.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on March 31, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m. in Kariba Village, Karorwa Parish, Bukinda Sub-county. It is alleged that Kareba went to his sister’s home and confronted her, accusing her of bewitching his family. In response, the deceased reportedly told him that he would “see more,” which is said to have angered the suspect.
Police say Kareba, who was armed with a panga, allegedly attacked his sister and cut her on the head multiple times, leading to her death.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly surrendered himself to the Bukinda Sub-county Chief, handing over the weapon used in the attack. Authorities were alerted, and police officers re-arrested him shortly after.
The scene of crime was visited and documented by investigators, and the suspect is currently detained at Rukiga Central Police Station. The body of the deceased was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, noting that investigations are ongoing.
