Rukungiri; Coordinators of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and supporters of Rtd Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi in Bwambara Sub-county, Rukungiri District, have welcomed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s decision to retain Jim Muhwezi Katugugu as Minister for Security in the newly appointed Cabinet for the 2026–2031 term.
Speaking to our reporter, the coordinators led by Moses Rwakakyaka described the appointment as a vote of confidence in Muhwezi’s leadership and contribution to Uganda’s security sector. They said his continued service in the ministry demonstrates the trust the President has in his ability to safeguard the country’s peace and stability.
The coordinators noted that during his previous term as Security Minister, Muhwezi played a key role in strengthening national security and supporting government efforts to maintain law and order across the country. They expressed confidence that he will continue to perform effectively in his renewed mandate.
They also pledged their continued support to both President Museveni and Muhwezi, promising to mobilize residents to support government programs aimed at improving livelihoods and accelerating socio-economic transformation in the area.
According to the coordinators, Muhwezi’s retention in Cabinet is a source of pride for the people of Rujumbura County and Rukungiri District at large, saying his presence in the national leadership reflects the region’s contribution to Uganda’s development.
Rtd Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, who has served as Minister for Security for the past five years, was retained in the same position following the President’s recent appointments of the Vice President, Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State and Senior Presidential Advisors for the new government term.
The coordinators called upon residents to remain united and support government initiatives as the country embarks on a new five-year leadership term.
